Social Media and the Kidney Patient

The Kidney Group has 3 Facebook pages (a primary one, one in Spanish (Grupo de Rinon) and one just for Peritoneal Dialysis patients (PD as First Choice)), 3 Twitter accounts that correspond to the 3 Facebook pages, this blog "Kidney World", a You Tube channel "The Kidney Group" and "The Kidney Minute", of course our website, and a Pinterest account. Why? Because we believe it allows a community of our own patients, and others to form and share common ideas, questions, and experiences. It allows our own doctors to reach many patients, and to provide clear and concise education regarding kidney disease, in a manner more personal than a generic website from a kidney foundation. We can be certain the information you receive is credible, and vetted by our board certified nephrologists. We are able to reinforce education given in the office, and it allows family members who could not be present, to log on and read the same information. We find when patients read on topics we have suggested, they return to the office better prepared to ask the serious questions that help make smart choices. As a patient nears ESRD, these questions can become more critical. What type of dialysis will I choose? Why do I need an access in advance? What diet do I choose for my particular lab results? And what about transplant-is it right for me and am I right for transplant? All of our various types of social media are easily accessible from this blog "Kidney World", which has been formatted in a mobile friendly way so you can take the Kidney Group daily wisdom with you in your travels. Remember, questions of a general nature sent to our editor are WELCOME and will be answered promptly!
