Click title to a link to a disturbing paper I personally know to be true. Too many dialysis patients are never given a clear option of being evaluated for a transplant, particularly minority patients, and patients over 50.
Now sometimes patients start dialysis abruptly. Either something acute occurred and they wound up on dialysis OR they were not referred early enough_which is 1/3 of all patients(but that is another topic!).
Most patients are referred to a nephrologist early and if your doctor has not covered transplant with you(even to explain why it may not be for you)ans they start talking about dialysis-PICK YOURSELF UP AND FIND ANOTHER NEPHROLOGIST.
There-I said it.
Let me also say we have the highest percentage of patients transplanted at The Kidney Group!
